ACT team mission
The purpose of the Assessment Care Team is to improve safety through proactive, collaborative, coordinated, objective and thoughtful approach to the prevention, identification, assessment, intervention and management of situations that pose, or may reasonably pose, a threat to the safety and well-being of the campus community.
Reporting Concerns to the Assessment and Care Team
Report all incidents and concerns that you have regarding an individual's behavior to the ACT, including as much detail as possible about the behavior/incident. Use your judgment as to what should be reported, erring on the side of over-reporting if in doubt. Submit your report HERE.

Examples of Behaviors to Report
- Excessive absences or tardiness
- Inability to concentrate
- Significant decrease in academic performance
- Avoiding participation or sudden withdrawal from others
Examples of Behaviors to Report
- Talk of helplessness, hopelessness, or despair
- References to suicidal thoughts and feelings, verbally or in written assignments
- Jokes publicly about killing him/herself
- Suddenly withdrawing from organizations or clubs
- Giving away possessions
- Preoccupation with death
- Preoccupation with violent acts
- Homicidal threats
Examples of Behaviors to Report
- Unusual or changed pattern of behavior
- Disruptive, verbally aggressive or physically aggressive behavior
- Easily agitated
- Hyperactivity, very rapid speech, or slurred speech
- Change in personal hygiene or dress
- Appears sad or exhausted
- Dramatic weight loss or gain
- Strange or bizarre behavior indicating loss of contact with reality
- Recognize:Be familiar with and acknowledge symptoms of distress.
- Respond:Privately initiate contact with a student displaying symptoms of distress. Approach the student with empathy, letting them know your concern comes from a place of care rather than judgment.
- Refer:Know your limits as a help-giver; only go as far as your expertise, training and resources allow. When a student needs more help than you are able or willing to give, it is time to make a referral.
